Supercar Document

Assignment 2: Creating a ’social web’ site with Ning. 

I have decided to create a social network site using ning.com about supercars for my second assignment. This is because cars are something I am highly interested in and working on them is a hobby of mine; however I decided to create this network simple so that anyone can feel free to use it even if they have no knowledge about cars and how they work. It’s a site created for an audience for all ages that can join up and ‘show off their car’ or talk to other users about their favorite cars. I have made this site very simple to use so that even kids wouldn’t have difficulty navigating through it and using it. 

 Design  

I have used a contrast of dark and bright colors in order to allow information to stand out, as you can notice from looking at my site the background colors I have used are black and red as they clash well together and I have used purple coloring around information with a green header. I feel that these colors help make the site look different and make each item on the page stand out to the user’s attention.  

The site is also very consistent as each page has the same layout therefore browsing through the pages doesn’t make the user feel that he is entering a different site each time, also if I didn’t keep it consistent then this may also would have led to making navigation for users around the site difficult. 

 Features 

My site allows users to enter and upload pictures and videos of cars, this could be either cars they own, or cars that they like and would also like to share with other online users. They have the ability to join groups and forum discussions where they can start discussion threads about topics they feel to discuss with other users. I feel this is a key feature as it means that users can socially interact more with other online users this way. 

There is also a music player that I have added onto the site for entertainment purposes so that users have something to listen to while on the site and a slide show of images of cars.

I have also added a few widgets such as weather news and calendar and for the younger audience a car game. The purpose for adding this game was so that kids would be encourage to come and visit my site and hopefully this would be a feature that would make them re-visit the site over and over again.
